Phew… it’s done. The last few weeks have been incredibly busy for me. Just started film school, and it hasn’t left me with a lot of time to sort all this out. But thankfully the mastering engineer was able to get me the final masters this weekend… otherwise who knows when it would have been released.
I’d like to thank all those who listened and gave their feedback on the preview released last month. It was very helpful and encouraging. Also a special thank you to everyone who actually ‘bought’ the albums (that is entered more than 0 when downloading it) – this has really assisted with the production of the new album.
Wow it’s been over two years since Wall of Sound was released back in December 07. As soon as it was released, I got to work on the next album. But much has happened and quite a lot has changed in that time. Many a remix/remake. New life, a new job, new friends, new computers, new tools, new operating systems… things were rather busy. But at last…
The news you have all been waiting for: IT’S FINISHED!
My new album ‘Complexity Kills’ is all finished and I sent it off for mastering earlier today. So it’s back to waiting again (for me as well this time), but at least we have a release date on the horizon.
If I were to guess a release date (and please don’t hold me to it) I would say 1 February 2010, but I will be sending emails to all who have downloaded the previous album via Bandcamp the moment it is ready to download.
If all goes to plan, I will be releasing a limited preview of the upcoming album next week, available for all who have expressed interest in an early listen in exchange for some critique. A test audience if you like.
There’s still time if you’re interested – the cut off will be the day I release the preview.
Hopefully I’ll have decided on a name for the new album by then…
Update 18 Nov: The invites are out! Keep an eye out for an email from soundcloud. Theres still time to request an invite, I’ll give it the rest of the day…
Update 11 Jan: The preview has run its course, and has now been taken down. Thanks everyone for the help!
The bad news: I’ve removed the option to download the free low quality mp3 versions of my albums.
The good news: There is now no minimum cost for the high quality versions so you can download the various super-high quality formats (and lossless formats) for for free. The removed minimum also allows for small donations in the $1 – $5 range – now that is good news .
As for the new album. It’s coming. Have hit a little bit of a wall with it though – it’s mostly complete, but I think it still be missing something. Could I interest anyone in a preview in exchange for some suggestions/critique/ideas?
I’ve had a number of people asking what I use to make music. Well I used FL Studio to compose/mix the first two but with a lot of extra samples from all over the place with a bit of live recording thanks to some willing participants. Unfortunately I don’t make enough (any) money from Lunar to justify using a real orchestra so its all East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra.
With album number 3 (whatever it is to be called) a few things have changed. Firstly I switched to a Mac which makes FL Studio no longer an option. Its been a nice change though, giving me a chance to try some new tools. I’ve written/recorded most of the new album in Ableton Live which is a lot of fun and in some ways simpler than FL but more flexible (that is, not a complete hack – no offence to FL Studio ). The other thing that is nice about Live is precisely that. You can use it live. And I’d be into doing some live stuff sometime after the album has been released.
While I’m in the mood for answering questions, if anybody has any thing they want to ask, now would be a great time. Maybe we can start a little FAQ thread.
Well things have been a little quiet in the world of Lunar for the last year or so. But all that is about to change.
I’ve just moved Hybrid Awaken and Wall of Sound off my own (expensive bandwidth for free downloads…) server on to Bandcamp. This means the albums are now provided for download in a number of super high quality formats including 320k mp3, Apple Lossless and FLAC. You can choose what you pay, or download the 128k for free. Bandcamp also have a nifty visualiser to keep your eyes entertained while you listen.
In case you were wondering, YES another album is in the works and is coming along quite nicely. Well its not a lot like either of the other albums but it will be familiar all the same.
And one more thing – I’m working on a live Lunar act. Its gonna be a full on multimedia show. Keep an eye out in the distant future for developments…… in the mean time I’d love to hear from anyone interested in participating in any way.
